Towards GNOME Shell 3.14

GNOME Shell 3.14 release is approaching, the finale relase being scheduled for the 22nd of September 2014. The development to update the extension promptly has started. An experimental version is already available for early adopters.

A new experimental branch (experimental_gnome-3.14) tailorer for the current beta version 3.13.90 is available on Github. In case you experience any problem when testing this version, please don’t forget to report a bug.

There aren’t big changes ready for the new release, but only few bug fixes.

v29: new version released

A new extension version (v29) supporting GNOME Shell 3.12 has been released and can be found as usual from the extension website or downloaded manually from the release page. See also the alternative installation methods

This release includes some important changes, that is a rework of the dock sliding mechanism and the introduction of pressure sensitivity. These changes improve the extension behaviour particularly in multimonitor configurations.

Moreover the customized Adwaita theme previously released standalone is now built in the extension and can be enabled and disabled in the extension settings.

Release notes

  • Include optional custom theme for the dash replacing the Adwaita-dashtodock theme
  • Rework dahs sliding: introduce custom container solving bugs:
    • Bug fixing: the dash doesn’t steal anymore input events on the secondary monitor when slided out
  • Add pressure sensitivity to show the dash
  • Emit custom signals when showing/hiding for better extension interoperability

Longstanding bug affecting multimonitor solved

A longstanding bug affecting multimonitor configurarions (issue 28) where the primary screen is not the leftmost one has finally been solved.

This, combined with the optional pressure sensitivity, should allow to use the extension both with intellihide and autohide in all multimonitor configurations.

A new version including this fix targeting GNOME Shell 3.12 is going to be released soon. In the meantime you can try the master branch on Github. This feature is going to be backported to GNOME Shell 3.10 too.

New feature: pressure sensitivity

A new highly requested feature has been implemented. Finally, the dock takes advantage of the pressure barries which are available since GNOME Shell 3.8. The option is accessible and configurable through the extenson settings. This has been developed thanks to the help of Charlie.

It’s now possible to set a minimum pressure towards the screen edge required to trigger the showing of the dock, similarly to the behaviour of the message tray in the default shell. This prevents to show the dock by mistake when the mouse touches the active display edge.

A new version targeting GNOME Shell 3.12 is going to be released soon. In the meantime you can try the master branch on Github. This feature is going to be backported to GNOME Shell 3.10 too.
